Narcolepsy and an adjunct in management of hyperkinesia in children. Clinical selection for Methylphenidate should follow culture results where relevant, Kenya STG/EML recommendations, and the current product SmPC. Class context: Therapeutic agent (verify pharmacological class). Confirm site-specific dose, duration and monitoring before prescribing.
Usually 20-30 mg daily in two or three doses. Children: Above six years, initially 5mg one or twice daily with gradual increments of 5- 10mg weekly. Max 60mg / day. Below 6 years, not recommended.
Adverse reactions vary by agent. Counsel on common predictable effects and serious warning symptoms (allergy, severe rash, jaundice, unusual bleeding, severe GI symptoms, neurological changes). Report suspected ADRs via national pharmacovigilance channels.
Store as labelled. Keep out of reach of children.
