Full mechanism text

Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell-wall synthesis by binding penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from enzymatic hydrolysis. Combined effect: bactericidal activity against many beta-lactamase–producing organisms that would otherwise resist amoxicillin alone.
